Normandale Lake Park and Bandshell
A popular lakeside park with a paved path, open lawns and an outdoor bandshell used for concerts and community celebrations.

The place
Normandale Lake lies in the western part of Bloomington, framed on one side by the towers of the Normandale Lake office park and on the others by parkland and trees. A paved trail circles the lake, and the park includes open lawns, picnic spots and an outdoor bandshell facing a grassy slope that serves as seating.
Events
In summer the bandshell hosts outdoor concerts and community gatherings organised by the city and local groups, and the park has been the setting for Bloomington's Summer Fete, the city's celebration around Independence Day. Exact dates and line-ups change from year to year, so check the City of Bloomington's events listings.
History in brief
The lake and its surrounding park took shape as this part of west Bloomington developed in the late twentieth century, combining office space with public open space. Today the park is one of the city's most visible gathering places in the warmer months.
Visiting with mobility equipment
The paved loop makes the park a good choice for practising longer walks with a rollator or for a wheelchair outing, though some sections have gentle slopes and the lawn in front of the bandshell is grass. For concerts, consider bringing a sturdy folding chair with arms, arriving early to find level ground, and planning the route to the nearest toilets.
Good to know
- Shade is limited in places: bring water and sun protection on warm days.
- Geese and wet grass make the lakeside edges slippery after rain.
- Large events mean busy parking; drop-off close to the path helps people who cannot walk far.
